Ordinance Administration
The Buildings and Safety Engineering Department administers the facade ordinance for the City of Detroit. The department is located at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Avenue, Suite 401, Detroit, Michigan 48226; telephone: 313.224.2733.

 

The facade ordinance provisions are provided in Section 12-11-7.3, titled “Inspection and Certification of Cornices and Other Projections Attached to Buildings.”

 

Buildings Requiring Inspection
Buildings five (5) stories or more in height upon which there are any coping, eaves, bays, or similar projections of masonry, terra cotta, iron, steel ,or other material subject to deterioration or corrosion shall have all such projections thoroughly inspected and examined by competent workmen at their own expense at intervals not to exceed five (5) years.
